September – Dale Kipfer, Brakebush Transportation
Dale approaches everything in life, being a volunteer firefighter, volunteer coach, road commissioner and professional truck driver with safety in mind. In his 40 years as a truck driver, he has been in several situation where his quick thinking and training as a firefighter have helped people out of dangerous circumstances. There is one story that standout: January 1992 while he was traveling on US63 on his way to Waverly, IA in snow and ice he saw a Jeep Cherokee on its side with the lights off at the bottom of a hill. Dale parked his semi at the top of the hill and the jeep started flashing its lights. Dale climbed down the hillside and found a man & woman with their young son in the jeep. The woman climbed out & down Dale’s back. The man handed his son up to Dale then the man climbed out. They headed up to Dale’s truck to wait for EMS to arrive. Luckily, the family only had minor injuries. Dale has always been one of the knights of the road willing to help someone out.
